The Move Over Act

In a recent conversation with a DefensiveDriving.com student, I realized that there is a moving violation that everyone needs to be aware of. It was recently updated and is known as The Move Over Act.

The Move Over Act has to do with how you interact with law enforcement and emergency vehicles. You must yield the right-of-way to a police car, fire engine, ambulance, or other emergency vehicle using an audible or visual signal such as a siren, bell, or flashing lights. Pull as close to the right edge of the road as possible and stop until the emergency vehicle has passed. However, don’t stop in an intersection. Continue through the intersection and then pull to the right as soon as you can.

This is the type of important information that the DefensiveDriving.com, online driver safety course addresses.  In the conversation with the DefensiveDriving.com student, he mentioned, “I wish people knew what to do. The officer told me that the law was fairly new and I probably did not know about….but he was going to ticket me either way.”
