The Faces of Distracted Driving

Posted on by Defensive Driving | in The Daily Drive

Ray LaHood wants you to know about the dangers of distracted driving.   Mr. LaHood is our Secretary of Transportation and as I have talked about before, he is on a mission to educate the US public about the dangers of distracted driving and ultimately, he would like it to be against the law to have a cell phone or text while driving.

DefensiveDriving.com recently attended the Children’s Festival in The Woodland’s Texas.   We had our booth with race cars and the old guess which cup the car was under (Concentration/Three Card Monty).   The kids had a great time, as did the DefensiveDriving.com team.   Our race track went on the fritz probably two hours in and the joke was, the drivers were driving distracted which is why the track was busted, so kids, don’t let your parents drive distracted, tell them to put down that phone.

The parents all gave me a knowing grin – which I took to mean that 98% of them knew they had not been setting with a good example behind the wheel and most had probably been on their phone in one shape or form on the way to the Festival – with their kids in the car.

Hang up and drive, your car is not your office, there is nothing more important than just driving.   In most cases, that phone call, that text – are not that important.   If they are, pull over.    At the end of the day, we all need to change our behavior as it relates to driving – as the video eloquently states, there is no reason to cause that amount of pain.   DefensiveDriving.com supports Secretary LaHood in his efforts to make our roads safer.

You can read his blog- fastlane.dot.gov/  and you will come across the current campaign, the Faces of Distracted Driving.   DefensiveDriving.com will be sharing these videos as well.  These are not safety driving videos, but they drive home the point, real people are experiencing real tragedy from a real epidemic, that of distracted driving.   Just hang up.
