Inattentional Blindness

Have you ever completed a task that you do not remember doing?Have you looked at something without recalling whether you have seen it? If you have you have experienced a phenomenon called inattentional blindness or perceptual blindness. Inattentional blindness is the inability to perceive something that is in plain sight.

Inattentional blindness can prevent timely and proper reactions. Some have equated multi-tasking to inattentional blindness due to its overlooking nature. The truth is that not only does inattentional blindness cause distracted driving, it can also impact us while we are walking. I personally have witnessed people walking, talking or not, run into a wall- and not for the fun of it. The moral of the lesson is to beware of inattentional blindness. It may cause distracted driving.
