Stephen King, Pet Sematary and Distracted Driving?

Posted on by Defensive Driving | in The Daily Drive

Today’s commute was very difficult and I used all four major freeways in Houston to get to work.   I lost at least a half an hour getting to work along with all my other friends who were having a problem getting to work due to a major accident.  During my commute I got to use the bump bump bump technique as three cars were attempting to occupy the same lane.

This is a great video from our safety driving video which demonstrates the effective technique of avoiding an accident.

So everyone is talking about distracted driving as it relates to cell phones and texting, but what about your pet?  As I was sitting in traffic today, I saw this little yappy terrier cruising back and forth in the front seat, sticking its head out the driver side window every thirty seconds to yap at the car next to its owner’s and it got me thinking, we have had a distracted driving problem for a very long time.

Any Stephen King fans out there?   Remember when he was almost killed by a driver who was distracted by his … dog.   King was out for a walk and the driver of the van was distracted by his dog attempting to get in a cooler.   Can you imagine if Stephen King died because of distracted driving due to a pet?   What irony that would have been for the author of Pet Sematary?   Stephen actually wrote about his injuries in Dreamcatchers.   So in this pet crazy world, remember, pets should buckle up to.

Just goes to show you distracted driving is not just about texting and cell phones, it is about focusing on driving, period.   DefensiveDriving.com offers refresher driver education through its safety driving video, check it out today at www.wheelsinmotion.com!
