Rules of the Road: Don’t Risk Driving Drowsy!

Perhaps you know someone (or perhaps you are someone) who has fallen asleep at the wheel and has experienced a serious crash because of it. Undoubtedly, getting behind the wheel while drowsy can be just as dangerous as getting behind the wheel after guzzling down a few liters of wine, and although many of us already know the dangers of driving while being very tired and drowsy, why do many of us still engage in this kind of behavior?

Whether we’re on a long road trip, or coming home after a long day of hard work, it’s important to remember to not take the risk of driving while drowsy! Indeed, even if we think we can get to our destination without falling asleep, the consequences of falling asleep are far too costly to even attempt to drive sleepy. In general, it’s a good idea to assess just how tired you are, and if you find yourself closing your eyes, starting to yawn, losing focus on the road, or showing another sign which points to you being sleepy, then now is the time to find a safe place to pull over so that you can refresh your batteries and avoid the serious costs which come from falling asleep at the wheel.

Do not ever risk driving drowsy! It certainly isn’t difficult to fall asleep while driving if you’re really tired, so be sure to do the right thing and safely pull over to a safe location where you can get some rest the next time you feel sleepy while behind the wheel!
