Its Summer Time

Posted on by Defensive Driving | in Driving and Safety Tips

School is out and the temperatures are rising and believe it or not, now is also the time of year where most teenagers get into auto accidents.  According to Allstate, the deadliest months for  teen vehicle fatalities are May, June, July and August.

If you’ve driven around Houston lately, especially at night, you will see either a car full of teens or a teen talking on a cell phone or texting at almost every traffic light.  Hopefully these kids will have taken driver programs, but chances are, like most teens, they looked at their learning driver programs as necessary evils to getting their licenses.

What can a parent do?  First off, have a talk with them about seatbelt use, no drinking or drugs, no speeding, no talking on the cell phone,et.. but if you’re still not quite comfortable with them behind the wheel, have them take one of the many defensive driving courses available.  They might learn something that they use every time they get in the car, and you might even get a discount for auto insurance.
