HOV Lane Violation

Posted on by Defensive Driving | in Driver Safety For You & Your Family

According to DefensiveDriving.com, approved defensive driving course:

“Carpools and buses are frequently given special lanes on roads. If you do carpool, you can use carpool lanes to move through traffic faster and more easily.

Using a CARPOOL or HIGH OCCUPANCY VEHICLE (HOV) lane generally requires a minimum of 2 or 3 people in a vehicle, including the driver, but this depends on local regulation. ”

HOV lanes in the state of Texas are highly consistent with requiring more than one person in a vehicle for travel. So why are there so many HOV lane violators? Signs at on-ramps or along the highway tell you the minimum number of people required to be in a vehicle using the carpool or HOV lane and the days and hours that the requirement applies. The pavement of these lanes is marked with a diamond symbol and the words “HOV LANE.”

Is it really worth violating HOV lane requirements just to ride on the HOV? The answer is no.
