No, these lights actually do have meaning and should definitely not be ignored while driving and this is especially the case with the check engine light.

Although this light does not mean you should stop immediately and get out of your car, it can mean you should take the car to a repair shop as soon as possible; this is especially the case if the check engine light begins to blink repeatedly! Indeed, ignoring your check engine light could be extremely dangerous, as it is possible that a fire could start if the problem is ignored for long.
