Distracted driving: any activity that takes the drivers attention away from the task of driving.

Collision risk – 23 time greater while texting than while not texting.
Average time looking at device – 5 seconds.
5 seconds at 65 mph = almost 2 football fields.
48% of teens, send or receive texts while driving.
67% of drivers 25-34 talk on the phone while driving.
83% of all drivers rate distracted driving as dangerous.  Only drinking while driving was higher at 88%.
6000 traffic deaths per year attributed to distracted driving.
Only 14 states have distracted driving laws regarding texting while driving.

What is the answer to distracted driving?
Awareness, education, change in driver attitude.
Legislation alone will not adequately address distracted driving.
