A Few Lessons Learned in Court

Posted on by Defensive Driving | in Driver Safety For You & Your Family

Last week I appeared in court for a tow hearing and boy did I learn a few things. As I sat I thought, “People should know about this”. Hence my subject matter of the day.

First off, when the judge arrived she indicated that she would be looking for probable cause of the tow (Did the tow driver have probable cause to tow?). I knew at that point there would be a lot of disappointed citizens. So here are a few tips:

1) Do not park your vehicle at in a lot that you are not patronizing and leave it there.

Forget about parking in a different lot because the store or place of business that you are visiting ran out of parking space. Just wait! It will save you time and money later.

2)  Watch for tow signs. Even ones that are hidden.

There was a older woman who parked in a space with a tow sign wedged behind bushes. There was probable cause for tow even though the sign was not visible.

3) Make sure you place your paid parking slips on your dash.

There was a gentleman that was towed because the slip was on his seat. This simple mistake cost him over $150.00!

The hearings that stood out the most were the public tows-Which brings me to the DefensiveDriving.com course.
