4 Tips to Keep Your Presents Safe in Your Car While You Shop

The holidays are a time for families, festive foods, and, of course, shopping, shopping, and more shopping! Shopping can be a lot of fun as you hunt for the best deals on all of the greatest items for your loved ones. However, if you are doing all of your shopping on one day, you may end up with some gifts in your car as you go around town. And while you are busy looking for the perfect gifts, thieves are busy looking for free gifts left in cars. As exciting as shopping is, it is important that you take some precautions to make sure that your gifts are not the ones taken by thieves. Here are four tips to help you keep your presents safe as you go from store to store to fill up your sleigh.

1. Keep Gifts Out of Sight. If possible, always store the purchased gifts in the trunk of your car. Thieves will patrol parking lots for visible gifts. They don’t want to risk breaking into a car if they don’t know for sure they will get something out of it. If your trunk is full, always carry along a large blanket to cover up any gifts that you have to leave in the back seat.
2. Save Large Purchases For Last. If you don’t ever leave the expensive items in your car unattended, then they will not be able to be stolen. So save that electronics store for last.
3. Shop During Daylight Hours. Since it gets dark so early now, many thieves will wait until the sun goes down to attempt breaking into cars. If you can get your shopping done while the sun is still out, you have a better chance of not becoming a victim of theft.
4. Lock Your Car. Yes, this one is obvious. But you would be surprised how many people forget to lock their car in the excitement of all of the shopping they are doing. So slow down and double check that your car is locked before ever heading into a store.
