Click It or Ticket

Officers are on the road to enforce the Texas Click It or Ticket campaign to save lives. But why? Isn’t it evident that everyone should wear a seat belt? Do officers really have to enforce Texas drivers to wear their seatbelts?

Seat belt use has been on rise since 1994, accompanied by a steady decline in percent of unrestrained passengers vehicle occupant fatalities throughout the US. These are great results.  Seat belts help the driver and passengers remain in their compartments in the event of a vehicle accident. In most collisions where passengers did not wear their seatbelts, there are significant injuries from hitting objects in the car.

If you wear only a lap belt when driving, your chances of living through a collision are twice as good as those of someone who isn’t. If you wear a lap and shoulder belt, your chances are three to four times better.
