Red Light Cameras

Posted on by Defensive Driving | in Driver Safety For You & Your Family

Red light cameras have become a nation-wide discussion. Just in case you are unaware of the controversy, red light cameras capture the license plate number of vehicles that run red lights at select intersections. The vehicle owner is then assessed a fee for the violation via mail.

Some claim that red light cameras are good for safety and prevent red light violations. Others claim that assessing a fine is not a deterrent to red light violations, and what about the vehicle owners who were not actually driving the vehicle in the event of a violation? Both are good arguments. All this talk has made me wonder if red light violations are a result of determining what to do when the light is yellow. I have often wondered at what point should one stop at a yellow light?

DefensiveDriving.com explores how to react to a yellow light in the state approved defensive driving course.  Taking measures such as knowing what to do in different driving situations is explored in the DefensiveDriving.com course.

Here is a snippet of information:

A YELLOW light warns you that the red signal is about to appear. When you see the yellow light, you should slow down and come to a stop at the stop line or crosswalk, if you can do so safely.
