Safety Inside the Vehicle

Posted on by Defensive Driving | in Drive Like ME

People tend to ignore the small things. But sometimes, paying attention to the minor details can prevent major problems. A lot of drivers focus or what’s going on around the car while driving, but don’t notice that there are also dangers inside of the vehicle. Below are a few tips to remind drivers of the importance of safety inside of the vehicle.

1) Strap up before putting the car in motion- I’ve noticed a lot of drivers will start pulling out of the driveway or parking spot and then put on a seatbelt. That shouldn’t be. What if you’re backing out and a car slams into your vehicle at full speed? You’re less likely to be injured if you are strapped in. When you get in a car, the first thing you should always do is put on your seatbelt, and be sure that all of your passengers are properly strapped.

2) Make sure foreign objects are secured- Some drivers have drinks, mp3 players, cell phones, and other things in their car. People also leave their children’s carseats in the back seat. All of the items inside of your vehicle should be secured. You don’t want to have to slam on your breaks and something flies into you. Or something could fall underneath you feet and roll under the break pad and prevent you from breaking properly.

3) Limit your distractions- We all like to ride with friends or talk on the phone while driving. Then you have those who can’t seem to find a radio station they want to hear, or the hungry drivers who use one hand to eat and the other to steer. But we should not get to wrapped up in these things and forget about what’s going on on the road. While driving, your eyes should be on the road at all times!

You cannot control other drivers, or the things that are taking place on the road. But you can do little things to make sure you are prepared on the road. Your safety starts inside of your vehicle!
