“I don’t always reading Driving Blogs. But if I do, I read “The Most Interesting Blog in the World” …stay safe my friends.”

Whether some of you realize it or not, driving a car is a task that requires a high level on concentration. With so many distractions within the car (texting, eating…etc) sometimes it’s easy to forget that what we do is a highly dangerous event and we need to focus. It’s become the norm to take our eyes off the road to change the radio station or to tend to children riding in the backseat. We as drivers tend to carry the belief that we possess the uncanny ability to be able to multitask and drive. It’s the “I got it” mentality. This particular mentality is one where a person believes they know enough about what they are doing to control the situation no matter what may happen. In the case, the driver thinks they have enough control where they can take their eyes off the road to tend to something else. Things like other drivers and road hazards are almost non factors, because they think whatever happens, “I got it”.

Kid spills juice in the backseat? Nothing a quick turn of the head and blot of a wipe can’t cure.

Important phone call or text comes in while in traffic? It’s not like anyone’s going anywhere.

We have all done it and we have all seen accidents happen on the road that we the causes of distracted driving. Honestly, one of the most frustrating driving habits known as “rubbernecking” is a good example of distracted driving! It’s basically drivers focusing on an accident of perhaps another distracted driver.

Things happen, that’s understandable. The idea is how can one reduce their distracted driving? We as society are always in a hurry to get where we are going. But sometimes it wouldn’t hurt to make a stop somewhere to clean up that juice spill. In my own driving experience, I place my cell phone in my purse or in the passenger seat and not in my lab where it’s easy to text or accept a call. If you must take that call, stop somewhere and answer the phone.

I’m sure the latest gossip, work-related tidbit or stains on your new interior are not worth the consequences of distracted driving.
