“Texting bans have not reduced crashes at all”

I read an article today about the possibility that the multiple states ban on texting while driving is not working.   The Highway Loss Data Institute has done some research that indicates that the bans might actually increase the risk for drivers despite the laws.
This might be somewhat misleading as simple intuition would tell you that IF you didn’t text while driving, the stats would show differently.

There is no question that the distracted driving topic has garnered tremendous interest over the past few years and driving safety is as important as it ever has been.  Corporate driver training courses and defensive driving courses have added larger sections covering this very topic.  However, what the HLDI study found is that more and more accidents are occurring because of the possibility that drivers were even more distracted by their own efforts to conceal their texting from  view to avoid possible law enforcement.

Lets face facts.  Texting while driving is dangerous and should be avoided at all costs.  If its necessary to look at or respond to a text, please, for the safety of other drivers, pull over and find a place to stop before texting.
