New Jersey Teen Driver Safety week

Oct. 17 to 21 is teen driver safety week in New Jersey. In the past 10 years, more than 700 young drivers have lost their lives on New Jersey roads and every 10 minutes another teen is involved in a crash, according to the state Division of Highway Traffic Safety. Cell phone talking, alcohol drinking and drug use were some of the prohibitions discussed at Livingston’s annual teen driver education night.  Setting a good driving role model was the theme at the annual “Parents and Teen Driver Education Night.” That means no talking on cell phones, tailgating or texting while inside the car. Guest speakers from the Livingston police department, NJ Teen Safe Driving Coalition, Allstate Insurance and the Livingston High School Department of Health and Physical Education spent nearly two hours providing safety tips and going over the details of the graduated driver license. More than 50 parents and students attended the event Tuesday night inside Livingston High School. Jamie McIlvaine, a Livingston High School senior who has a probationary license, said the event was good and she learned a lot.
“It kind of scared me – it put in the concern of texting while driving”, the 17 year-old said. “I’d rather not text ‘LOL’ if it can prevent an accident.”
