A horse of a different color

Posted on by Defensive Driving | in The Daily Drive

I am often asked what my products can do for a company and how corporate driver training can reduce an employers liability when they have employee’s driving.   I believe our products and courses go a long way toward providing the employee with practical, informative and most likely information they had forgotten about with respect on how to really be a safe driver.   But every now and then I come across an article on the web or newspaper which just makes me shake my head, because if you have employees who driving for your company, you really have open liability.   The best you can do is have a company driver training program, emphasize the importance of mature driving behavior, the dangers in relation to  distracted driving and hope what happened to this company does not happen to you.

The article http://www.safetynewsalert.com/worker-left-dead-horse-in-road-now-company-is-out-2-7m/ states it all, but essentially the company is out $2.7M in a jury award as an employee driving a company utility van hit and killed a horse.   He left the scene of the accident to get help, unfortunately, someone else hit the horse and suffered a life changing accident.

The jury awarded the accident victim $2.7M because the employee driving had failed to put out emergency flares or stayed at the scene of the accident.

This is not an everyday incident, but it really drives home the need for a comprehensive driver safety policy.   In the event of an accident, you do_____?
