With all the rain

There were some teenagers last night who either missed their turn or hydroplaned off the road because of the road conditions.   They had their car in a drainage ditch well above the wheels and it was clear they were not going anywhere quickly.   They were in a really dangerous spot as they were trying to push their vehicle out of the ditch into oncoming traffic, in the dark, on a busy road.

The real key to wet and slick roads and what would have helped this group last night is the same key we discuss in all of our online driver safety programs.   Reduce your speed.   Driver safety is all about matching your speed to the current road conditions (fog and ice are also discussed at ddo.vertex.com/safe-driver-resources ).   If you are traveling at a safe rate of speed which is adequate for the road conditions you will generally not end up off the road.

So, regardless of the conditions, drive friendly, slow down, arrive alive and you most likely will not end up in a ditch.
