They’re wrecking all around you

Posted on by Defensive Driving | in The Daily Drive

I hear that said from time to time while I am watching NASCAR, especially the night race at Talladega, but it was truly the case for me today on my commute into work, they were wrecking all around me.   Today’s drive in really drove home the need for EVERYONE to take our defensive driving course at ddo.vertex.com because the topics we cover on our safety driving video and our online driver safety course, work and would have helped.

Accident number one… I-59 S and Polk, to the driver of the Infiniti… it is called a space cushion, if you follow that closely you will hit people, which is exactly what you did.   Allowing space at any speed is a good idea, yes you were barely moving, but it did not matter to the owner of the Cobalt now did it.  I saw it happen and when the two of you decided to pull over where you did, in the left lane, at 7:49 AM CST… you shared your pain.

Accident number two – to the man driving the 83 F-150 with the For Sale sign in the back – is it really a good idea to make a three lane maneuver after your truck stalled in the right hand lane?  Fortunately your hazard signals worked while you stalled the first time, but do you think it was a good idea to get over into the far left lane…really?  Taking care of your vehicle is important… checking tire pressure and oil pressure, simply having a vehicle that is maintained and can make it from point a to b is important.   If your vehicle is stalling on the highway – a) no one is going to buy it b) you are putting the rest of us at risk.    DefensiveDriving.com covers proper vehicle maintenance and what it means to safety on both our Florida Approved Traffic School and our defensive driving courses in Texas.

Accident number three – if you go to fast for conditions, you will wreck.   When it is wet, it is slick.   So to the owner of the Ford Expedition in between Holly Hall and OST on Cambridge, that fencing is not cheap nor is all the bondo you are going to have to get.

It is a good thing no one was hurt but there was a lot of damage done today and these accidents were all preventable.   If not just for the discounts for auto insurance, whether you are an individual who has employees driving or you are driving to and from work every day like me, take our online driver safety courses, as a refresher training on a subject you have not been trained on again since drivers ed!   It might help you steer clear of the wreckage!  The irony, each driver was on their cell phone after the accident what were they doing before?
