Should your car really be your office?

Posted on by Defensive Driving | in The Daily Drive

Today’s count on the drive in … two accidents, not bad for a Monday.

Next time you are driving into work, count the number of people who are actually focused on the act of driving compared to all the others who are distracted driving.   It makes me extremely nervous to think that over 80% of the cars and drivers of those cars are on the road with me are doing something other than driving.

The car is an office.   Today a gentlemen pulled along side of me in his 7 series BMW, one hand on the wheel and a document, the other with his phone to his ear.  Whether this was an employee driving or an owner of a business driving, he was no focused on driver safety at all.   He was chatting away and obviously this was a very important conversation as the driver really did not notice the light was green and his $80,000 vehicle almost got hit.  What gets me is all the focus right now with respect to distracted driving is specifically focusing on texting but it does not address the fundamental behaviors which are problems.

Have you ever go so into something, your thoughts, a song, the driver next to you, your emotions or a talk show, that you missed your exit?   Ever try to remember a certain stretch of road and realize you can’t?  These are typical symptoms of distracted driving which are pretty common, yet not on Oprah’s mind right now.   Our driver safety schools, whether our Florida Approved Traffic School or our Texas state approved defensive driving course not only help with ticket dismissal, they also help provide company driver training and individual training on good mature driving behaviors.   Habits, if practiced, keep us safe from the rest of the 80% who are focused on something other than the business of driving.

I love this video… it gets my point across as well, and high lights one of the products you can find at offers.defensivedriving.com   Mr. Pogue does a great job and I love his sarcasm.

Have a safe driving week!
