A Patient Driver Is A Safer Driver

Every time we get behind the wheel to drive, we take countless chances but we do so with a certain degree of skill and calculation. But there are situations when driving that we’re faced with additional risks that, while tempting, shouldn’t be taken. For example, you’re coming to an intersection and the green light turns to yellow. You have just a moment to decide if you should continue at your current speed so that you make it through the light in time or if you need to slow down in order to be stopped by the time the light turns red.

Under most circumstances, it’s best to prepare for a stop rather than trying to make it through the light or speeding up as some drivers are inclined to do. However, if there’s a car behind you, don’t slam on the brakes or else you could find yourself quickly rear ended. Hurrying through that stoplight is an example of an unnecessary risk that you shouldn’t take while driving.

A similar situation might be when you’re waiting for a break in oncoming traffic before making a left handed turn. If you try and make a turn when you don’t have enough space to do so, there’s the potential for an oncoming car to have to hit their brakes, which of course will cause a chain reaction to the cars behind them. Patience is always better than haste when driving and it’s up to you to remember that when it comes time to make those split second decisions.
