Driving Laws Vary From State To State

If you’re taking a long road trip this summer, specifically if you’ll be driving through multiple states, you’ll want to make sure you review the traffic laws of each of those states before your trip. While many driving laws are standard from state to state, there are differences you should be aware of if you want to avoid getting pulled over or being involved potentially dangerous accident.

Speed limits in particular can fluctuate quite a bit in different states, so you’ll want to be prepared for driving through parts of the country where the speed limit is different than where you’re from. If you’re driving through a state with a lower speed limit than you’re used to, you could find yourself getting an expensive ticket. On the other hand, if you’re not used to driving at the higher speeds you’ll encounter in other states, you need to be ready to stay with the flow of traffic. Another difference you’ll find as it relates to speed limits is in some areas, the maximum speed changes at night compared to during the day. This is something you should be aware of and prepared to adjust accordingly.

Some states utilize frontage roads more often than others and if you’re from an area where these are less common, they can be confusing at first. It never hurts to review the basics as well as learn some advanced defensive driving techniques even if you’re not going on a road trip.
