Assume other Drivers aren’t Defensive Driving…

There’s no denying we’ve become a multitasking society and while many would argue it’s made us generally more efficient, others will maintain that this hasn’t been a net gain overall. This multitasking mentality is very evident when we look at our daily driving habits. People that have a work commute tend to think that they can use that time to perform tasks that they’d be better off doing at home or even when they get to work.

It’s common to see drivers doing everything from having breakfast to applying makeup in the car while they drive to work in the morning and it certainly doesn’t take a defensive driving expert to determine that’s not a great idea. The problem is, we get too relaxed with our routine and start to lose respect for just how attentive we have to be while driving. This leads us to thinking we can avert our focus away from the road and towards something else, which is a mistake that could be fatal.

One of the first things you’ll learn in a driver safety course is that defensive driving requires you to observant of the other drivers on the road. When you’re doing this, it doesn’t matter if you don’t need to put a lot of focus on your own driving because it’s crucial you stay alert to what others are doing. You can’t assume others will practice safe driving techniques, which makes doing so yourself that much more important.
